Monaco Blue Initiative 2011
50 INTERNATIONAL PERSONALITIES REGROUPING GOVERNMENT LEADERS, SCIENTISTS, MEMBERS OF THE BUSINESS WORLD AND CIVIL SOCIETY, ALL SHARING AN INTEREST FOR THE SEA, MET ON THE 13TH AND 14TH OF FEBRUARY 2011 AT THE OCEANOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF MONACO, FOR A SECOND EDITION OF THE MONACO BLUE INITIATIVE UNDER THE HIGH PATRONAGE OF HSH PRINCE ALBERT II OF MONACO
The 2011 MBI focused on the development and management of Marine Protected Areas.
Currently, issues concern the creation of new MPAs and the establishment of an ecological network which is coherent and representative of MPAs in all oceans and seas in the world to meet targets set by the Convention on Biological Diversity. The challenge is also to give existing MPAs sufficient means to properly manage these areas and to ensure that real conservation measures are implemented.
