Hydro-Gen is a marine current turbine, a kind of « marine current mill », i.e. a machine powered by marine currents and able to output electric power re-exported on shore to the grid by a wire.
Hydro-Gen uses a bold and innovating renewable energy technology that is both simple and cost effective. It uses the old principle of paddle wheels while updating and upgrading it with cutting-edge technologies.
The project started in 2004 and has developed through a 10 kw prototype and tests at sea over a 3 year period. It is now planning to deliver its first commercial machine destined to supply power to an atoll in French Polynesia.
Hydro-Gen targets two markets: isolated islands and remote areas with hydrokinetic potential, from the sea or rivers.
The project manager is David Adrian, a former navy officer who graduated as a naval engineer. He has a master's degree in law and an MBA from HEC. After 18 years in the Navy, he worked in various large industrial companies, mainly abroad. He is now dedicated to the development of innovating technologies in the marine industry, renewable energy, and consulting.
