Portugal and Norway to develop blue venture opportunities.

Oslo, June 4, 2014

At the initiative of the Portuguese’s Ambassador Norway, Mrs. Clara Nunes dos Santos, the key Norwegian stakeholders were invited to a power breakfast where both the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Assunção Christa, and the Secretary of State from the Sea, Manuel Pinto de Abreu, presented the Portuguese National Ocean Strategy 2013 -2020 and  the biomarine and deep sea mineral assets of Portugal.

Mrs. Dilek Ayhan, State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and, the deputy Director General of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign affairs, The Ambassador of Norway in Portugal, were attending to confirm the strong interest of Norway to establish future collaboration between the two countries.

Norway and Portugal represent more than 55% of the total European maritime zone. They are two countries of marine innovation with strong potential blue growth assets. The two countries will lead European blue growth and allow other European partners to benefit from their untapped natural biodiversity reserves. It is no doubt that the blue growth will generate massive job creations, foster research and innovation.
This is the first step stone towards reinforcing interactions in the biomarine industry especially in preparation of the October convention in Cascais. The message was received loud and clear!

It’s now time to engage and prepare practical approach to make the BioMarine Convention the place to finalize these potential collaborations
