Welcome words from the Chairman
This year, Canada is turning 150. While many events will take place throughout the year, BioMarine will participate in this important anniversary by bringing together in Rimouski, QC, Canada more than 20 nations, 300 business entrepreneurs, political leaders and ambassadors for our oceans including Prince Albert II of Monaco.
While Québec is rapidly and efficiently deploying its maritime strategy supported by a significant investment, citizens are wondering if this bet will win. The answer is definitely yes!
The marine and maritime economy is a driving force for the Province, which benefits from many international cooperations and a very positive image from an economic point of view. Not only will the government create many employment opportunities, but it will also create a seedbed for future generations who will have the opportunity to embrace new careers, to choose new directions through the many opportunities that will be offered.
Everyone is concerned, marine bioresources producers who will find new opportunities in algae , fishes and mollusks farming, the industries of transformation whose activity will be boosted by the processing of byproducts, providing elaborated ingredients for the food, the cosmetics , marine biotechnology and pharmacy industries. We must also consider the maritime sphere with its ports, the new challenges with clean shipping, the fishery industry that is reinventing itself, the space industry that will allow better surveillance of our coasts, aquaculture cages, and pollution episodes. Besides, the information technology industry will allow the treatment of billions of data that we collect daily. Yes, the blue economy is a great and beautiful revolution; it is a circular economy, which will improve marine environment. It represents the sustainable conquest of our last frontier on earth.
I look forward to seeing you all this fall in Rimouski by the St Lawrence River.
